Gallery Education & Tours

YorkArts tours are a fascinating introduction into the inspired world of art. Our staff and guest artists share their knowledge and provide activities for groups ages 6 to 18. Your visit will instill a new appreciation for the arts by using age-appropriate interactive gallery discussions, creative visual analysis, and educational projects. Our tours also enhance critical thinking skills with concepts that apply across the educational spectrum.

Our qualified instructors will help your group use their 'investigative eye' when looking at art, engaging younger tour members with active gallery games and lively discussions that will fascinate as well as teach. Guides focus on the theme of the current exhibit, making each tour unique. With each exhibit change, a new tour and educational activity is created, so students and groups can tour the YorkArts gallery again and again throughout the year!

Each year, YorkArts holds an annual literary competition called "The Writer's Eye" based upon a select exhibit. Area art teachers are encouraged to visit the three-floor facility during this time for exhibit talks and tours.

YorkArts offers an array of tour options to meet the needs of each school or group:

Current Exhibit Guided Tour
Minimum of 3 participants, maximum of 20
Length: 20-40 minutes
A detailed, interactive tour of the current exhibit in the YorkArts Gallery.

Guided Tour & Art Activity
Minimum of 20 participants, maximum of 40
Length: 60-90 minutes
Guided exhibit tour with a hands-on educational arts activity that complements the exhibit theme.

Guided Tour, Art Activity & Artist Talk
Minimum of 40 participants, maximum of 60
Length: 90-120 minutes
Schools and groups will talk in-depth to the exhibiting artist about their works in addition to a guided gallery tour of the exhibit and educational arts activity based on the exhibit theme.

Tours are available Monday through Saturday, 10:00 am-2:00 pm. Arrangements can be made for tours outside of these hours by calling YorkArts at 717-848-3200. Please schedule your tour at least two weeks in advance. If your group has special needs, please call YorkArts before scheduling your tour so that we may make arrangements.

After receiving your Tour Registration Form, a written confirmation of your selected tour date and time will be mailed within 5 to 7 business days. If your selected date and/or time are not available, a YorkArts staff member will call you to select an alternate date within three business days.
